Importance of Listening to your Body
Every person is unique and has a body that is built differently, therefore often posture and technique can be a very personal thing.
It’s one thing to copy famous players’ posture or technique, but usually, if it doesn’t feel right (pain or discomfort), something needs to be adjusted until it does.
Inform your music instructor about the signals you are getting from your body. He or she can guide you towards a direction that will avoid discomfort during playing, so you create good posture habits and can concentrate on what really matters: the music!
Make sure your instrument is adjusted to you, instead of having your body adjusted to your instrument.
TIP: Have a mirror set up in your practice spot, or make a video of yourself when practicing or performing and observe your posture (with and without the instrument).
